Inside Borra Caves

The caves are about 90 kilometers away from Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. They are known as Borra Guhalu (hole in the ground) in Oriya, are naturally formed and are about 150 million years old. The cave is abundant with stalactites and stalacmites.

  1. Pranav, congrats on this fantastic shot . Did you resort to combining multiple exposures here. Fantastic exposure escpecially lots of detail in shadows and well contained highlights. And it amazes me this so close to Hyderabad as well. Reminds me of the Antelope Canyon one of my dream locations.

  2. @Deepak – Thanks :) This is just one photo. the cave is super dark with some halogen lamps sprinkled around for illumination. The colours came out good with the setting of “Vivid” mode and the white balance to “Shade”.

  3. Excellent!

  4. I dont know much about technicalities, but I love this picture.

  5. Lovely picture. Especially so, since I personally think the coloured illumination by the Tourism Department is so garish ( this was some 8 years ago) but you have captured the beauty of the caves.

  6. Hey Pranav,

Pretty Pic! And I think you meant Burra Guhalu (hole in the ground in Telugu), not Oriya :)

  7. this is like a symphony in orange… awesome contrasts and one helluva shot
