The Lonar Crater in Maharashtra, was formed about 50000 years ago when a comet/meteorite hit the surface. Its the third largest crater in the world. The saline lake formed is still very pristine, the crater itself is a fun trek and the surrounding vegetation is a treat for birdwatchers. The only man-made thing in sight, is a temple which is in ruins. Read more about the crater  here.
