Fort Dansborg, with its standout pagan and Danish influences, stands out among the fishing hamlets of Tranquebar. This odd fort was a result of the Danes setting up a trading post (and eventually making it a colony) along the Coromandel coast in 1620.

Interestingly, this fort, a small temple further inland and a few huts were the only architectural survivors of the devastating tsunami that hit the coast in 2005.

  1. Looks like a sand castle. :)

  2. Please take this off once you guys see it. Waking up to indiadailyphotos has become a ritual with me so I was a bit surprised when for the first time I saw no pic uploaded on Sun the 26th. Your photos are amazing and keep up th good work.

  3. A correction. The tsunami or the Asian Tsuname as it is sometimes referred to occured not in 2005 but Dec 26, 2004.
