This is a portrait of my grandmother – the most amazing woman I’ve ever known.

She was born into penury and suffered the most terrible childhood and adulthood imaginable. Despite being almost illiterate and widowed at age 40 with 7 children, she fought on and brought up her kids with the utmost care and love. And when I was going through troubles of my own, she was the one who gave me support, taught me all the important lessons in life and made me, me. A few weeks after this was taken, she passed away. This photo is the last vivid memory I have of her.
