Jute
Women in a remote village of Assam extract Jute fibres from the stem of the jute plant. Freshly cut stems are soaked in water for about 15 days, so that the coarse outer-covering on the stem becomes soft and then the fibres can be extracted easily. Interestingly, India is the world’s largest jute growing nation!
